Residential Leak Detection

Leak Detection

A leak you can't see can run up your water bill and damage your home for months. We use acoustic and thermal equipment to find hidden leaks fast and pinpoint them, so the repair stays small and targeted.

Find the leak, not the whole wall

A damp patch that won't dry, a water bill that's crept up, or the sound of water running when every tap is off all point to a leak somewhere you can't see. Rather than opening up walls and floors hoping to find it, we use detection equipment to pinpoint it first.

That means less mess, a smaller repair and a quicker fix. We find most leaks behind tiles, under slabs or inside walls without any demolition just to go looking for them.

The technology

The right gear for the job

Acoustic equipment lets us hear water escaping a pressurised pipe, even through tiles, concrete or a wall cavity. Thermal imaging shows up the temperature difference a hot water leak leaves behind. Together they tell us where the leak is without us having to guess.

It's the difference between opening a 30cm patch right over the leak and pulling apart a whole bathroom hoping to stumble across it.

Where home leaks hide

Leaks love the spots you can't see, under the slab, behind shower tiles, in wall cavities and out in the garden along the supply line. Often the only clues are a damp smell, a warm patch on the floor or a bill that doesn't add up.

We track these down with as little disruption as possible, then repair the leak once we know exactly where it is.

How we track a leak down

Four steps from first clue to a sorted repair.

1

Listen & scan

We use acoustic gear and thermal imaging to read what's happening behind walls, floors and the slab.

2

Pinpoint

We narrow it down to a specific spot rather than a general area, so the repair can be small and targeted.

3

Confirm

We check our finding before opening anything up, so we're confident we've got the right spot first time.

4

Repair

We fix the leak, test it, and make sure there isn't a second one hiding nearby.

Leak detection FAQs

What Sydney homeowners ask us about hidden leaks.

We use acoustic listening equipment and thermal cameras to detect water moving and the temperature it leaves behind. That lets us locate the leak through the surface, so any opening up is small and only where it's actually needed.
A water bill that's higher than usual, damp or discoloured spots on walls or floors, a musty smell, a warm patch on the floor from a hot water leak, or the meter ticking over when nothing's running. Any of those is worth a look.
Yes. Slab leaks are one of the main reasons people call us. Our acoustic equipment can pick up water escaping a pipe under the slab and pinpoint it, so we only need to open the slab at the one spot.
Yes. We're plumbers first, so once we've located the leak we can carry out the repair, test it, and check the rest of the line while we're there.
In most cases we can narrow a leak down to a small, specific area rather than a vague guess. Some surfaces and pipe types are trickier than others, and we'll be straight with you about how confident we are before we recommend opening anything.
