Backflow Prevention

Backflow Prevention

Backflow can pull contaminated water back into the drinking supply. We install, test and certify backflow prevention devices for strata, commercial and residential properties, and handle the Sydney Water paperwork for you.

Protecting the drinking water

Backflow is when a drop in pressure lets water flow the wrong way, back toward the mains. If that water has been near chemicals, irrigation, a cooling system or other contaminants, it can put the drinking supply at risk. That's why properties with higher-risk fixtures are required to have testable backflow devices fitted and tested every year.

We're accredited to install and test these devices, and we lodge the certificates with Sydney Water, so your property stays compliant without you having to chase the paperwork.

Why it matters

Keeping clean water clean

Every property is connected to the same drinking water network. A backflow device is the one-way gate that stops water from your property travelling back into that network if pressure suddenly drops, say during a mains burst or heavy demand from the fire brigade.

It's a small device doing an important job, which is why Sydney Water requires the higher-risk ones to be tested by an accredited plumber every year.

Done right and signed off

We fit the right device for the property's risk level, from simple non-testable valves up to reduced pressure zone (RPZ) devices for higher-risk sites. Then we test it, complete the certificate, and lodge it with Sydney Water.

For strata and commercial buildings with several devices, we keep track of when each one is due and remind you before it lapses, so nothing slips through.

Backflow FAQs

What property owners and managers ask about backflow.

It depends on what's connected at the property. Sites with irrigation, fire services, commercial equipment or other higher-risk connections generally need testable devices. We can assess your property and tell you what's required.
Testable backflow devices need to be tested by an accredited plumber once a year, with the results lodged with Sydney Water. We track the due dates for you and send a reminder when it's time.
Missing the annual test can lead to notices and fees from Sydney Water, and it leaves the drinking supply less protected. Staying on top of it is far cheaper and simpler than dealing with a lapse, which is why we handle the reminders.
A reduced pressure zone device is a higher-level backflow preventer used on higher-risk connections. It has a relief valve that dumps water if it detects backflow, giving an extra layer of protection. We install and test these as well as the simpler devices.
Yes. Once we've tested the device we complete the paperwork and lodge it with Sydney Water on your behalf, and give you a copy for your records.
